Mocha Porridge

I used to detest and loathe coffee, and now it’s an addiction since I drank 3 cups to get through a 9am lecture after a night out. I don’t know how or why it happened really, but I really love black coffee now, so I thought it would be appropriate to further this love into breakfast time, and make some mocha and chocolate porridge (especially after my coffee-loving best friend texted me saying I had to make some!). Oh God, it tastes amazing. This will probably be my life for the next few weeks, just coffee porridge for every single meal. It certainly made revision more appealing this morning, as I’m trying to power through my essays, having chocolate in my belly definitely helps!

Coffee tends to be a love/hate affair, and I’ve crossed from one to the other in a matter of months; how do you guys stand on the issue? This would definitely taste just as lovely without the coffee, so even if you’re a hater, an indulgent breakfast is a good way to start the morning!

This was inspired by some mocha cupcakes I made for my best friend (they weren’t vegan though, so I didn’t post a recipe), so I’ll leave you with a picture of them :)

Mocha Porridge

Mocha Porridge

Ingredients

50g of porridge oats

250ml of almond or soy milk

One tablespoon each of cocoa powder and ground coffee (I asked my roommates what the real word for “coffee dust” was. I’m a twat.)

Lots of chocolate chips

Some walnuts to decorate

Method

  1. Put the oats, milk, cocoa powder and coffee into a pan and heat gently until thick and creamy.
  2. Add in the chocolate chips and top with walnuts.

  1. I am definitely going to try this out! I, too, have gone from detesting coffee (though I always liked the smell…) to loving the stuff. Now I drink it frequently. I’m sorta not sure what I did before it…
I’ll just be over here gazing lovingly at the coffee porridge if you need me… P.S. The cupcakes look great! :-) x

    • Yeah, I always liked the smell but never the taste. Weird. I think I must have been one of those irritatingly perky ‘morning people’ before… Now I rely on caffeine in order to be alive.
Thanks :D you should try them out! xx

      • Me too! Except I think I’m still an irritatingly perky morning person, who is now just extra irritatingly perky, fuelled by coffee. :-) I am heading to the supermarket today to grab some soy milk so I can make this wonderful creation and I feel I’ll be eternally indebted to you once this is so.
        -cue my starry eyed face-
        :-D xx
