Dessert for Breakfast: Apple Pie Porridge

So after experimenting with my very popular Carrot Cake porridge, I decided to set myself a challenge to create loads of different flavours for porridge that vaguely resemble popular cake flavours! I have porridge every day for breakfast, and this is my way of breaking the boring cycle of simple stuff, and enjoying cakey porridge :D

These are the flavours I’ve come up with, see if you can add your own!

Ideas so far – Apple Pie, Bakewell Tart, Banana Bread, Black Forest Gateaux, Carrot Cake (done!), Christmas Cake, Gingerbread, Jaffa Cake, Pumpkin Pie, and Sticky Toffee Pudding.

Today I started with apple pie porridge! It tasted so wonderful, I can’t even describe – so warm and lovely and sweet, just like apple pie filling! I’ve been baking all morning, and I thought it was a suitable breakfast as it left me feeling energised and happy, ready for the morning ahead – you’ll be happy with what I baked as well, I hope you’re looking forward to it :)

Apple Pie Porridge


45g of old-fashioned porridge oats

250ml of soy or almond milk

One teaspoon of cinnamon

Good pinch of ginger

One granny smith apple, peeled and diced

One tablespoon of agave syrup

Two tablespoons of apple sauce (I thought this was just an American thing, turns out Sainsburys do a lot of apple sauce!)

Half a teaspoon of vanilla extract

One teaspoon of lemon juice

3 or 4 walnuts


  1. Mix all the ingredients (except the walnuts) into a non-stick pan and heat for 7ish minutes until thick and creamy.
  2. Crumble over the walnuts, and spoon a teeny bit more agave and cinnamon over the top – yum :D

Serves one
