I finally made a Green Monster smoothie! My last housemate arrived a few days ago and brought quite a few awesome kitchen gadgets with her, including a blender! I’ve wanted to make a Green Monster smoothie for absolutely ages; I tried to make one about three months ago, but our blender broke midway through and it turned into a mushy, bitty mess – basically banana water with spinach bits – not good. This one was lovely though, and you definitely can’t tell that there’s greenery in it, you just get a yummy sweet smoothie with all the goodness like iron from the spinach :)
I had mine as a pre-gym snack, but I’ve fallen so utterly in love with them that I’m planning on smoothies for breakfast quite a few times in the near future; this recipe’s just a basic one that I decided to try based on my tastes, but there are absolutely loads on the original green monster movement website, so feel free to let me know what combinations have worked for you, I’d be really interested to know if they’re nicer with nut butters or even kale in them.
We like it green!

Half an apple
Half a banana
Ice
One peeled kiwi
150ml of soy milk
Giant handful of baby spinach
Around 100g of pineapple
Method
- Whizz all of the ingredients up in a blender, pour into a glass and enjoy!

This looks delicious and so nutritious :) I will definitely try it!
Your green smoothy invites me in! :) Yummy too!
Very nice post. I just stumbled upon your blog and wished to say that I’ve really enjoyed surfing around your blog posts. After all I’ll be subscribing to your rss feed and I hope you write again very soon!
Sounds soo good, but I domt like green drinks … Lol. Not sure why. But blindfolded I would drink this :)
I quite often just blend orange juice, spinach and celery. Tastes really good! You’ve got the vitamin C to go with the iron then for absorption! (I do strain it though!)
That’s such a cool idea :) x
OMG! That sounds delish! I’m definitely trying it. THANKS Emily. (-:
Hope you like it :) x
Yum!!! That looks like a healthy, but still tasty, breakfast alternative. Love that you were still able to create a sweet indulgent taste with only things that are good for you!! I will have a go… just need to track me down some soy milk
Thanks :) I bet it tastes even better with almond milk, I love that stuff so much x
This looks delicious! I am going to our local farmer’s market this afternoon and will have to get some of these fresh ingredients! Looking forward to trying this. Great post.
Hope you like it :D x
Thanks for stopping by my blog! I also love green smoothies. My current favourie combo involves kale, banana, almond butter, rice milk, avocado and frozen mango. The avocado makes it so creamy! I often have one for breakfast.
That sounds really nice! I’m not a massive avocado fan, but I love mango, so I might put some in next time :) x
Love green smoothies…particularly the way they taste so surprisingly non-green! I wish I made them more often, because they taste great and are so healthy, but I haven’t quite found a good place for them in my typical daily eating routine! I always seem to opt for solid over liquid food… xx
Same here, I never really drink smoothies, but I thought with the arrival of the new blender I’d give them a try :) xx
